Charity Buzz Monitoring: A “Live” Experiment

Charity reputation online

Now, here’s an experiment. We’ve started getting lots of charity signups for our conference - Monitoring Social Media 09 - taking place later this month in London. Obviously, reputation management is rather important when you’re dealing with people’s generosity and trust and, as I reported last week, as a result many charities monitor social media very actively.

So, we figured we would put this to the test.  Below we have published a random list of 70 UK charities – most of which are large enough to know better than not to monitor social media. Once this post goes out – we’re going to wait and see how many notice our mention of them. We won’t name and shame those that don’t. We’re just curious. I’m thinking we’ll get 4-5 responses – but let’s see.

I read this post and was ecstatic :). At Search2Give we have to deal loads with charities and having lots at the SMM event next month will be an awesome opportunity.

Glad you’re monitoring things Chris – but it doesn’t look too promising at the moment. 24 hours in and no charity comments! I’m really surprised, especially with the biggies like Oxfam, Save the Children, Bardardos and the like.

Ah well, I’m sure I’ll find some to speak to at your event. (I’m James Pipe’s friend by the way)

Hi Luke. Great idea. We gotcha! Interesting experiment – we’d love to see who else picks up on this.

    Keep in touch.

Love the experiment! The British Red Cross has found you, and you’ve been tagged and sent out on our social media update for today.

We keep an achieve of all mentions on our delicious account (link above)

    Thanks
    Alex

Thanks Alex and Katrina! The British Red Cross is the winner… but are they also the only contestant monitoring social media?? Time will tell.

    And us!

    (RSPCA branch)

I think it may depend a bit on the volume of social media comment a charity gets. If it’s huge then something innocuous like this won’t show very high up on the radar.

OK – consider yourself monitored by Shelter too then. Good work British Red Cross tho!

Thanks Sally (and Rosemary). You’re in the leading pack – that’s for sure.
